Car Insurance Sterling (Car Insurance). Why is there no oil on the dipstick? Why is there no oil on the dipstick? I have my oil every 3000miles, When I check the level with dipstick around 2000miles, There will be no oil on the dipstick! I sometimes add a quart for that extra 1000miles til I go back to the dealer, sometimes, I leave it as is. When they service my car and drag this "thing"(sorry for all the technical terminology) under my car and remove some screws then a nice long flow of oil comes out? I'm confused if there is no oil on the dipsstick, where is all this oil coming from when they remove the screws. Is this normal or does it mean I have an oil leak. When I park my car, the only liqid i see is from the AC's water. If you are seeing no oil leaks, but the car is using oil between changes, it sounds like you are burning oil. You can usually see this as blue smoke or haze in the exhaust. Sometimes it is only (or more readily) visible when accelerating. Most cars hold 4 or 5 quarts of oil. If you are down 1 or 2 quarts, there will still be a strong flow when the oil drains out of the oil pan when the drain plug is removed (some tech language!). Burning oil is not a good sign. It indicates that there is quite a bit of wear on the engine - usually either rings or valve seats. Both are expensive to repair. Both are rare in cars that have the oil changed as faithfully as you state - except in cases of old age. You car is burning some oil. You need to check it more often. The dipstick only shows about 2 quarts of oil usually, so there may still be 2 or 3 quarts in the engine, but it's not good to run it so low. if u want to know if its leaking use a leak testing dye from auto zone You noticed also that the oil warning light did not come on. There was still 2 quarts in the sump. Then the Oil gets to 2 quarts low , what's left doesn't reach the dipstick. You need to pay more attention to your oil level and keep it up. Oil also helps the engine shed excess heat and if you have too little oil that ability is diminished. Your engine may be burning oil. It can be sucking into the combustion chambers through worn out valve stem seals and work out valve guides. Check your oil every week and add when you're one quart low. Dipstick oil analysis may sound a little goofy, but it works. Not to mention it's also cheap and quick. There's only one problem - figuring out what the oil Auto parts : Wheel Hub Puller Acura 1995 . Is it a better choice? What is all this about manufacturer rebates and dealer financing? that's only for a new car, right? I read somewhere that you can get as little as 0% per year...like, as in, you don't have to pay interest on the loan at all? Sterling . How to Cover an Exhaust Crossover an Intake PortAmerican V8 engines that are equipped with carburetors have an exhaust crossover passage in the intake manifold, connected to an exhaust port in each cylinder head. The purpose of this passage is to provide heat for the carburetor to prevent icing and ensure smooth running during cold weather. Racers, along with muscle car owners who live in warm climates, often block the crossover passage to enhance performance by providing a cooler, denser intake charge. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Service manual for your car Basic mechanic's tool set Gasket scraper Intake gasket set with crossover blocking plates Gasket sealing compound Step by Step : 1 Remove the intake manifold from your engine, following the instructions in the service manual. 2 Remove the old intake gaskets. Scrape the mounting surfaces with the gasket scraper, being careful to not allow any debris to fall into the engine. Make sure all gasket residue is removed, leaving a flat sealing surface on both the heads and the manifold. 3 Apply gasket sealing compound to the gaskets, following the directions on the container. Position the gaskets on the heads, aligning the gaskets with the intake ports. Make sure the metal blocking plates remain on the gaskets, as they are designed to be easily removable. 4 Replace the intake manifold, again following the directions in the service manual.
Sterling . 2001 Corvette LS1 Intake Manifold SpecificationsAll Corvettes built from 1997 to 2004 at the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant are equipped with the LS1 5.7 liter displacement V8 engine. Its performance level is significantly improved by the development of a new intake manifold. LS1 Engine The General Motors LS1 high-perfomance engine is the standard V8 used in GM's line of rear-wheel-drive cars. Since 1997 the LS engine family has been the exclusive powerplant of Corvette convertibles and coupes. The LS1 is a transitional motor between the traditional Chevy small-block V8's and the last of the big-blocks. Intake Manifold All 2001 Corvette models benefited from a new carbon-fiber composite intake manifold design. The upgraded manifold has a larger plenum volume, allowing a smoother, less turbulent air flow through the intake runners to the combustion chamber. The re-engineering provides greater camshaft lift and overlap moderation. The improved camshaft modification delivers more low-end torque for a faster start off the line. Performance The new intake manifold gives an instant increase of five-horsepower to the LS1, from 345 hp to 350 hp at 5,600 rpm. The level of torque increases from 350 lbs. per foot to 360 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. Manual transmission Corvettes get an even greater increase to 375 lb-ft. *screw into the screwholder and use the screwholder instead of a screwdriver to tighten the screw. One type of screwholder has a magnet to hold the screw; another (see Figure 2-3) has a little gizmo that grabs the screw when you twist the screwholder. Both are lovely. Figure 2-3: A screwholder can help you get screws into hard-toreach places. Wrenches Wrenches are probably the most basic tools for auto repair. You need a couple of different kinds in different sizes. There are several basic types of wrenches, some for very specialized purposes, but the following sections cover the kinds you need for most jobs. Look for sets made by well-known toolmakers, and try to buy them on sale. (For more pointers on buying tools, see the beginning of this chapter.) The turning of the screw 153

You must know which system of measurement your engine is based on. Originally, most for eign vehicles (except British ones, which had their own thread standard) were based on the metric system, while domestic engines used SAE stan dards based on fractions of an inch. Today, most American vehicles have a mix of SAE and metric nuts and bolts. Foreign cars or foreign components Sterling . Who was otis boykin married to?

Check your owner's manual or ask your dealer to see whether your vehicle requires metric or standard SAE tools before you buy anything. Combination Frenches When shopping for wrenches, you'll come across open-end wrenches and box-end wrenches, but the very best kind to get are combination wrenches, which have an open end and a closed end on each wrench (see Figure 2-4). These wrenches come in sets of several sizes, and each wrench is made to fit a nut of a specific size, whichever end you use. See the sidebar "How to use Sterling . Offset Wrenches Some combination wrenches are sort of S-shaped. Called offset wrenches, these are good for working in hard-to-reach spots. You may want to add a couple to your tool kit. The most useful offset wrench is the distributor wrench, shown in Figure 2-5, which you use to adjust your car's timing. (You need this tool only if your car has a non-electronic ignition system.) Be sure to get one to fit the distributor hold-down clamp on your vehicle. Part I: Getting Started. Figure 2-5: An offset distributor wrench is probably the most useful offset wrench. Sterling .
